The Pierian Centre brings the spiritual & aesthetic beauty of the Tibetan mandala to Broadmead!

Jamyang Ketup, is a Buddhist monk from the Tharlam Sasang monastery in Nepal, belongs to the Sakya tradition, which is renowned for its skill in the sacred Buddhist art of the sand mandala. This is the second year of Celebrating Sanctuary at which Jamyang will be creating a mandala. This symbolises an enlightened world and is said to be a blessing to all who visit it.

Another monk was working alongside Jamyang demonstrating butter sculpture. The exhibition started with a demonstration of the art – and with a kids’ workshop on Tibetan butter sculptures!

The mandala process culminated on Saturday 20th in the final Puja Ceremony.
Concluding ceremony for the Mandala
Saturday 20th June ~ NATIONAL REFUGEE DAY ~ 2.30PM ~ FREE
The Mandala completes its cycle of creation! All week a Tibetan mandala has been publicly & painstakingly created in Broadmead. The process came to an end this afternoon in a concluding ceremony. In recognition of universal impermanence, a traditional sand mandala is dispersed upon completion and consigned to the nearest flowing water.
